The Lumsden and District Arts Council was founded in 2002 and operates as a non-profit group in accordance with the Province’s Non-Profit Corporations Act. We’ve also been a member of the Saskatchewan Organization of Arts Councils (OSAC) since 2015.
Our motto is ART FOR EVERYONE.
Our PURPOSE is:
- To make arts accessible and visible to anyone
- To provide a safe, inclusive and supportive environment for anyone to engage with art
- To sustain the viability of the Arts Council
We’re located at ArtSpace in the upper level of the Lumsden Centennial Hall. Resources include an art library, a printing press and an abundance of art supplies. Among some of the art classes and how-to workshops we’ve hosted: printmaking, artist trading cards, encaustic wax art, acrylic painting, puppet making, needle felting and book making. The Arts Council partners with various community groups, including: the Lumsden Heritage Home, the Lumsden Library, Lumsden YWCA Daycare, Lumsden Duck Derby and we annually sponsor the Scarecrow Festival’s Lantern Parade.
Open studio times at ArtSpace. Most recently, we were open 9:30 am to noon Tuesday and Tuesday and Thursday evenings 7 pm - 9 pm. Stop by to visit, bring a project on which to work, meet local artists or share ideas and enthusiasm. Studio times are open to everyone.
