Council of the Town of Lumsden implemented a new infrastructure charge for sewer utility users by passing Bylaw No. 03-2022, which came into effect on February 22nd, 2022. Please see below for relevant documents and notices:
Power Outages
The Lumsden Utilities Department asks that we all reduce water consumption during a power outages.
This will help ensure adequate water supply in case of a fire and it will also alleviate the burden on our sewage lift stations.
We appreciate everyone’s efforts to conserve water as part of daily life; conserving water is especially important during a power failure.
SUMP PUMP DISCHARGE REBATE
Council has authorized a rebate program for homeowners who redirect their sump pump discharge from the Town of Lumsden’s sanitary sewer system to the storm water collection system. The rebate amount is $50.00 maximum, upon submission of the application form. The municipality reserves the right for on-site inspection, verification or follow up contact prior to providing the rebate.

The Water Security Agency (WSA) requires waterworks owners to provide notification to consumers once per year on the quality of water produced and supplied. Water sampling and a Permit to Operate license is required. The following are the reports of the Town of Lumsden:
The Drinking Water Treatment Plant
The Town of Lumsden began construction of a new Water Treatment Plant in 2001. At that time Lumsden received a Canada Saskatchewan Infrastructure grant for 60% of the total projected cost of 1.4 million dollars. Contractor cost increases, full plant automation and changing drinking water quality standards led to $700.000.00 in additional cost. Town Council has decided to finish the Water Treatment Plant to manual operation status, and borrow the additional $400,000 required to complete the project. To cover the costs of borrowing it was necessary to raise water rates by 25% at that time.
