This will help ensure adequate water supply in case of a fire and it will also alleviate the burden on our sewage lift stations.

We appreciate everyone’s efforts to conserve water as part of daily life; conserving water is especially important during a power failure.

Drinking Water Quality and Compliance, Annual Report to Consumers:

The Water Security Agency (WSA) requires waterworks owners to provide notification to consumers once per year on the quality of water produced and supplied. Water sampling and a Permit to Operate license is required. The following are the reports of the Town of Lumsden:

The Drinking Water Treatment Plant

The Town of Lumsden began construction of a new Water Treatment Plant in 2001. At that time Lumsden received a Canada Saskatchewan Infrastructure grant for 60% of the total projected cost of 1.4 million dollars. Contractor cost increases, full plant automation and changing drinking water quality standards led to $700.000.00 in additional cost. Town Council has decided to finish the Water Treatment Plant to manual operation status, and borrow the additional $400,000 required to complete the project. To cover the costs of borrowing it was necessary to raise water rates by 25% at that time.

The following chart illustrates the water rate increases for the Town of Lumsden over the past few years:
