The Lumsden Solid Waste Facility is your go-to place for all things recyclable, re-usable or disposable! This facility is available to the Town of Lumsden and RM of Lumsden No. 189 residents only.
Located at: 300 Qu’Appelle Drive East (Click here for Google Map)
The facility will have an attendant on site during the hours of operation, to ensure that waste/recycling is deposited in the proper location and to collect appropriate fees.
The Solid Waste Facility includes a building used to collect recyclable and reusable items, a recycle compactor, designated areas for metal and wood collection and a designated area for non-recyclable items.
Recycle Building: Bring items such as used paint cans, batteries, electronics, beverage containers and anything reusable into the building. The Re-Use Centre is in located within the building on site. There are limitations on the size of items (they must fit on a shelf). Items in working order such as toys, household small appliances, décor, books etc., are accepted. Feel free to “shop” and take home items from the Re-Use Centre!
Compactor: The compactor accepts household recyclables that don’t have to be sorted! Click here to learn: What Goes in the Compactor?
Yard Waste: Yard waste such as leaves, grass clippings, branches etc., are accepted at the Solid Waste Facility at no charge when in paper bags. Please place branches on the clean wood pile. Leaves and grass clippings can be placed in the rubbish piles. Watch for announcements on social media in the fall for Yard Waste Collection Days.

TRANSITION TO A TRANSFER STATION:
At the direction of the Provincial Government, the Town of Lumsden is required to decommission the current landfill and transition to a Transfer Station.
A transfer station is a temporary holding location for waste. Bins will be provided for citizens to deposit household waste and it will be transferred to an alternative landfill.
The transition to a Transfer Station will not impact the curb-side pick up of residential waste, however, due to the new requirement to transport our waste to an alternative landfill, there will be an increased cost to operate the facility. At this time, those costs are unknown. You can help reduce the costs by actively reducing the amount of household waste that goes to the transfer station, by doing things such as: composting, reusing material, recycling as much as possible, being mindful of packaging that your purchases are sold in, collect yard waste in brown paper bags (sold at the municipal office), and reducing any unnecessary waste production.
